The short answer: most escape rooms are built around a 60-minute countdown. The longer answer has a few useful exceptions worth knowing before you book.

Most venues design their puzzle count, story pacing and staffing around a one-hour session, and it's the default you'll see listed on the vast majority of rooms.

• Group size — more people means more hands searching, but also more chances to talk over each other; there's a real ceiling to how much a bigger group speeds things up.
• Difficulty rating — most listings show a difficulty scale; harder ratings generally mean lower average completion rates within the time limit, not a longer clock.
• Hint policy — some venues let you request unlimited hints without a penalty, others cap them or subtract time; check this before you book if beating the clock matters to your group.
